Mississippi is a southern state of the United States. It takes its name from the Mississippi river which flows along the western boundary the name itself comes from Native American language or some other closely related Algonquian language means Great River. Other nicknames attached to Mississippi are magnolia state and hospitality state. Mississippi has a warm, humid climate, with long summers and short, mild winters. This territory was organized on April 7, 1978 and was the 20th state admitted to the union on December 19, 1817.
